How have you been?
Yeah we’ve all been really good, working hard writing and gigging whenever we can!
Can you talk to us more about your single “Corrosive”?
It was originally a really downbeat melancholic sort of tune, but we really liked certain aspects of it so it got reworked into what it is today. It’s an anthemic pop song you can nod your head to for sure. We wanted our first single to be as accessible as possible whilst still keeping it interesting for ourselves.
Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?
Two of us having gone through break ups at the time, it wasn’t a difficult one to write lyrics for. It’s basically about reflecting on a badly ending relationship, saying goodbye and coming out of the other side.
Any plans to release a video for this or any of the other singles?
We are in the process of arranging the filming our first performance video. It’s a new experience for all of us and we’re looking forward to seeing how it looks!
The single comes off your new material Make Out A Picture- what’s the story behind the title?
It’s lyrics from our track “Everything With Nothing”. It’s about loss and dealing with the memories of that.
How was the recording and writing process?
We always tend to start with an idea on guitar, everything else is built around that idea and everyone throws ideas into the mix. Whether it’s adding bars here or there, the odd pause or changing time signatures, every subtle idea we use helps to give it our sound. The recording process was long, but we enjoyed every minute. We had the occasional band bicker but who doesn’t right?
Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
We wanted to make a body of work that was not only musically interesting, but also had meaning and had lyrics that people could relate to. I think we definitely achieved it and we’re all very proud of what we’ve put together here!
Any plans to hit the road?
Definitely in the near future. We’re currently playing any gig that comes up but for sure we’d like to broaden our horizons and get out there.
What else is happening next in Shot of Hornets’ world?
We’re writing again and ideally would like to release an album next. Currently throwing around all the ideas we’ve accumulated after wrapping up recording Make Out A Picture and we hope to play to bigger and bigger crowds! Like any band we want to be heard.
