Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Selene”?
Yeah, “Selene” is my first release in about 5 years. I have been hard at work trying to redefine my writing style and to discover my honest artistic voice. I think “Selene” definitely incorporates the vibe I’ve been meddling with lately.
Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?
Actually yes. I had a major crush on a fellow songwriter. And I spent a few weeks listening to her tunes on repeat and this song just poured out of me. She has this fascination with the moon, so I called the song “Selene”, which means “moon” in my native Greek language.
The writing process was surprisingly fast and simple. I was quite emotional the night I wrote it, at 3am. I just sat down, picked up the guitar and riffed until I wound up with the arpeggio. And then just whisper sang and wrote the rest of the song in under an hour. I still have the first demo from that night.
The Recording process was quick too. We managed to finish the song in pretty much one day. It felt like that was the only way to capture the raw emotion and a truly spontaneous performance. Just intuition and gut feeling
What role does NYC plays in your music?
NYC is a special place for me. It is my birthplace and also the place where I had my first important gigs and open mics. It was the first platform for me to test my material, and it has been both cruel and welcoming. I’m sure I’ll end up there again someday
Does the new single mean we can expect a new album – how’s that coming along?
I’m planning to put out another single in the coming months and a 5-song EP come summer. At the moment, I’m busy writing more songs and hoping to be able to start working on a full album soon.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
You can expect the EP sometime in June/July
Any plans to hit the road?
My team and I will be focusing our energy on local shows and festivals for the summer and aiming to hit the road in September.
What else is happening next in Metaxas’ world?
My world right now is always about what to put out next. Be it Music, Video and Promo work. I’m trying to find talented collaborators across different mediums with a common voice. There is a lot of great art out there and I’m excited to find it!
