Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

We’ve been well, thanks. Hope you’re well.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Bloom”?

Two years ago we were all pretty down and out. Our drummer was sleeping in his car. We had been in a band for a few years, toured, dropped out of college, and then ended up having it all go away pretty quickly. Felt like everything was out of control. We didn’t think we’d play music together again. Then I wrote “Bloom” and we kept going. It’s a sarcastic diatribe about one of the hardest stretches of our lives.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

Not particularly. Not any singular event.

Any plans to release a video to go along with the single?

I’m going to grab my camera and see what I can make. Imagery is a very important thing to us, so we’re very peculiar about what we let out into the world and what we don’t. Short answer: possibly.

How was the recording and writing process?

I was sitting in my dad’s basement with my amp cranked to 11 cuz I was filled with angst, running my guitar through a EHX POG and a fuzz pedal, getting that really deep, guttural fuzzy sound you hear on the recording. I was frustrated about a lot of things and just started playing what ended up becoming the riff of the song. From there I wrote the entire song in about 15 minutes. It never really changed from the first voice note I recorded.

From there, we recorded a demo at our guitarist’s house and then took it to Humans Win! Studio in Minneapolis, where we produced the final version with Lance Conrad at the helm. Our guitarist mixed it a couple of weeks ago.

How’s your new EP coming along?

It’s coming. We have the vision secured, just need to round out the edges. It’s a funky pop menagerie.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

I know the title for it. It’s a title I came up with when I was younger. It’s tongue-in-cheek, but there’s no release date set. We had hoped to put out a few songs at the beginning of the year as an EP, but kept writing better ones so we decided to wait a bit.

Would the whole record deal with your lives after dropping college and jumping on this musical wagon?

I mean, that is our lives! I write about what I know and what I know is being 22 and unsure about what’s next.

Any plans to hit the road?

Absolutely. We’ve got a show at the 7th Street Entry coming up in Minneapolis in two weeks. Other than that… nothing we can announce yet, but it won’t be too long.

What else is happening next in DENNY’s world?

Working on getting DENNY to more people and putting more music out.
