Corinne Bailey Rae follows the reveal of the first two songs from her new album, The Heart Speaks In Whispers, with the launch of a brand new video for ‘Stop Where You Are’, the first official single to be taken from the record.
The track premiered on BBC Radio 2 last week with Jo Whiley, along with a stunning live session on the show earlier this week. The video, shot around London’s Southbank and featuring Corinne amongst a striking cast of characters, is gritty, thought provoking and beautiful. WATCH THE VIDEO HERE
‘Stop Where You Are’ is a heartfelt song of awareness from Corinne, encouraging us to recognise the beauty in the moment rather than believing happiness is only to be attained in the future.
As she explains, “Sometimes we hold our happiness away from ourselves because we’re waiting for the perfect moment and we say, ‘When I get this job, I’ll be happy. When I lose this weight, I’ll be happy. When I get a partner, I’ll be happy’. So I really wanted to write this song, which is about being in the moment and being present, and stopping and ritualising the moment, celebrating it. I love the image of being in darkness and lighting a fire and saying, ‘Here we are together. This is life with all its pain, all its agony, all its beauty, all of its joy. This is it, this is what we have, this is the world that we’ve made!’”
Corinne’s highly anticipated third studio album The Heart Speaks In Whispers, will be released on May 13th (Good Groove / Virgin EMI). Her first collection of new material for six years, was recorded at her studio in Leeds, and in Los Angeles. The album is co-produced by Corinne with Steve Brown, her collaborator on her critically acclaimed previous album The Sea.
Her fans will experience new music from The Heart Speaks In Whispers live next week at her first headline show in five years, at The Tabernacle in London. The show sold out in less than 60 minutes.
Corinne will be supporting Lionel Richie on his forthcoming UK tour, including three nights at The O2 in London. She will also perform at UK festivals including Live At Leeds, the Cheltenham Jazz Festival and Cornbury Festival. More live engagements will be announced shortly.
In addition to ‘Stop Where You Are’, the album includes the previously announced tracks ‘Green Aphrodisiac’, and ‘Been To The Moon’, which you receive straight away, as instant grats with pre-orders of the album.
