Hi Skinn, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hello, how are you? Thanks for having me and I have been great thanks for asking. Really looking forward to the release of my new project.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “The Year”?

‘The Year’ is one of the lead singles in my new 10 track project, i wrote it whilst on vacation in thailand, and the song really talks about my private and public life in some aspects. And that’s something i never do.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

I think a lot of things happened at that time, but the most significant thing that happened was that i always wanted to include a song like ‘The Year’ in the EP and at the time i was in thailand with Boom (who is the executive producer of the EP) ,we were searching for clothing textiles and materials in Bangkok, then i get an email from Kalz Beats (Produced ‘The Year’) after listening to the contents i knew i had found the perfect way to create the song. And it came out pretty great.

How was the experience?

Life changing to say the least, it’s taken a couple of years for me to finally finish these recordings, everything about Rêves is innovative, there have been nights where nobody gets any sleep but who sleeps anyways?

The single comes off your new album Rêves – what’s the story behind the title?

It’s all about the dreams of every individual, the drive and determination to make life as positive and comfortable for everybody. That’s what Rêves is all about. The dream of peace through artistic expressions.

How was the recording and writing process?

(Smiles) I would like to say it fated to happen the way it did, we recorded in a whole lot of places and countries also. And as an artist the content just flowed on as everything else was progressing. It was such a blessed experience working with the people that agreed to work with me on this project.

What draw you to seek for a new direction on this material?

Why not? The only way things can change is if i be the change i want to see, plus life is all about challenges. I like a new challenge. This is what i live for.

What emotions get to inspire the lyrics on this album?

Well it’s a whole lot of love and positivity to people. It’s like a message of hope to the weak, a celebration of life to the strong and a toast to new beginnings. le rêve de la paix est la seule façon (The Dream of peace is the only way). And it’s really true a dream of peace is the way the world should be advancing mentally.

Does your days in military school have an influence your music in any way?

Not that much. I haven’t so far written about that in my music. But the friends i made whilst i was there have some influence on my music you know, their messages and thoughts of support. That influences my music to an extent.

What role does Nigeria plays in your sound?

Nigeria is one of the most beautiful places on earth and i really can’t wait to go back there this year. I think of concept of been a Nigerian in the modern world is a very intriguing one, the stereotypes included. In terms of the way my sounds are designed, i am looking at taking things to the next level. Improve the content whilst improving the sounds as well.

Any plans to hit the road?

Yes, we are currently making plans to do that, all things been equal i would be in cities around UK, countries in Europe, America and definitely Nigeria and the rest of Africa.

What else is happening next in Mr Skinn’s world?

Alotta tings fi gwan though. I will be releasing more music, videos, and i am currently working with Lubee (Art direction for the Cover/Has been featured on Vogue Italia on many occasions) we are looking at an art exhibition where we are able to sell the paintings and other art exhibits we might have. The proceeds from this would be donated to help alleviate the social struggles of women in Africa starting with Nigeria.
