Garbage, EL VY, Ibeyi & more slated for premiere “Live At 9:30” Epsidode + Poster Design Compeition‏

“Live At 9:30,” the groundbreaking TV music variety show launching nationwide on public television this spring, announced today that it is initiating an official poster design competition. “Live At 9:30” is conducting a nationwide search for artists to design limited-edition, collectable posters of original graphic art for each episode of the series. As an example, the poster for the premiere episode of “Live At 9:30” can be viewed above. The poster from Episode 101 was designed by local Washington, DC artist, illustrator and poster designer Sophie McTear. At just 20 years of age, McTear’s distinctive designs mix her passion for music with minimalist styles and dark and light themes, creating eye-catching illustrations that have garnered plenty of praise throughout the music and artistic community.

A different artist will be selected for each of the remaining 11 episodes of the premiere season of “Live At 9:30.” All posters will be sold as limited editions on the “Live At 9:30” website, with proceeds to be shared with the artists. The submission process for the poster design contest is detailed below.

“Live At 9:30” Poster Design Submission Process: Designers up for the challenge, should send an email no later than June 30th, 2016 to disalvo@thecontentfarm.tv. The email should include:

The “Live At 9:30” committee will review all submissions and will select artists they find inventive, compelling, and able to create works of art fans will want to collect.

In addition to the poster design competition, “Live At 9:30” is also continuing to accept and review submissions from filmmakers for “180 At 9:30,” a series of separate short films to air as part of each new episode. “180 At 9:30” will spotlight talented filmmakers from around the world. The films – which must be music-related or prominently feature music – must be no longer or shorter than 3 minutes. “Live At 9:30” will consider any type of film: mini-documentaries, animation, biopic or fiction. Announced last month, “Live At 9:30” has drawn nationwide interest (Washington Post, Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, Billboard) for what promises to be a new series unlike any other– an unpredictable, modern-day music variety show filmed at Washington, DC’s legendary 9:30 Club. Each cinematic, one-hour episode of “Live At 9:30” will feature a collection of acts from different genres, interspersed with insightful and entertaining interviews, short films, and comedic bits. In a word: variety – variety about which people are already talking.

The first three episodes of the 12-episode premiere season will feature performances by Garbage, The Arcs, Tove Lo, Ibeyi, El Vy, MisterWives, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Frank Turner, MS MR, Cold War Kids, Youth Lagoon, and Jess Glynne. Wayne White, of “Pee-wee’s Playhouse” fame, will be “Live At 9:30’s” art director. Episodes will feature an unexpected mix of contributors and hosts, including Henry Rollins, NPR Music’s Bob Boilen, Hannibal Buress, Jill Kargman, Ralphie May, and many more surprise guests.
