Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
We have been great! We’re in Austin, Texas right now and will be playing at SXSW this week. This is our second straight year performing at SXSW. I love Austin. I’m excited to be back here and can’t wait to eat lots of delicious meat!
After SXSW last year, some American promoters wanted us to play in the US again but we couldn’t go because of MERS. That was sad. But we’re here now so we’re glad!
Can you tell us about your single “I Still Love You”?
That song came out last spring and is about waiting for an old lover even if you are dating another woman.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
The single comes off your 2015 album Heavy Metal Is Back – what’s the story behind the album title?
We’re a glam metal band and wanted to tell everyone that we are bringing them lots of great heavy metal sounds.
How was the recording and writing process?
Most of the songs on Heavy Metal Is Back were recorded in one take. We actually just released a new single last week called “I Hate Hiphop.” We started working on that song before our new guitarist, Die-Amond, joined the band. So on this song I played guitar and mixed the track myself. Die-Amond added the guitar solo to the track once he became part of Victim Mentality.
Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics on Heavy Metal Is Back?
In the bathroom! Often, I get inspired when I’m going number two. I find I can detach from everything during those moments. And at that time, melodies and inspiration usually comes … or I guess I could say poops right out of me!
What attracts you to glam metal?
I’ve played heavy metal since I was two years old. So metal has been with me my whole life. Because I’ve been playing metal for as long as I can remember, trying to answer this question is like trying to answer “why are you alive?”
How are you preparing for your SXSW showcase?
We prepared for SXSW by releasing our new single, “I Hate Hiphop,” last week. Check it out. You’ll love it!
What are you looking forward to the most about returning to the festival?
Finding new romance and love!
What is happening next in Victim Mentality’s world?
We’re going to release another new single soon. It will be amazing! And we’re going to be playing more overseas gigs later in the year and playing some major Korean music fests too. Oh and we’ll be making some appearances on TV … so it’s definitely going to be a busy year. Follow along with us – you’ll be glad you did!
