WILD BELLE PREMIERE “THROW DOWN YOUR GUNS” VIDEO ON NPR MUSIC / VIDEO FEATURES WEAPONRY BEING MELTED DOWN AND REPURPOSED INTO BELLS‏

Chicago band Wild Belle (Natalie Bergman, Elliot Bergman) are proud to premiere the video for their current single “Throw Down Your Guns,” today on NPR Music. Watch here.

The video, which features the Chicago Children’s Choir as well as Chicago based footwork crew The ERA, perfectly complements the song’s themes of peace, unity and love.  A departure from their earlier videos, “Throw Down Your Guns”, which was self-directed by Elliot Bergman and produced by MAAVVEN, features various forms of weaponry – including guns and bullet casings – being melted down and crafted into beautiful bronze bells. A talented sculptor, Elliot handcrafted the bells, which are fully functional and will be used to create music. More peace bells are currently under production and will be sold to raise funds for the Chicago Children’s Choir and Guitars Over Guns.

Says Elliot and Natalie, “Throw Down Your Guns” started out as a love song. If art is political, and the presence of gun violence is all around us, we felt moved to try to do something that brought some of our surrounding communities together, and declared a pro-peace message. It’s hard for guns to be a simple metaphor in Chicago. Bells have historically been taken and melted down in times of war to make ammunition. We wanted to show that the process could be reversed and that peace bells could be made out of weapons. These bells will be used to make music, and sounds of peaceful protest.”

In “Throw Down Your Guns” we find Wild Belle riding a roughed up rhythm track with Natalie delivering a more emphatic lyricism than ever before. The song features Natalie Bergman’s dusty yet joyous vocals over a bass heavy dance rhythm and a Jamaican pop-esque instrumental hook.

“Throw Down Your Guns” is a standout track from the band’s forthcoming sophomore album, DREAMLAND, the follow-up to their much lauded Columbia Records debut album IslesDREAMLAND will release physically and digitally on Columbia Records on April 15th.

In support of DREAMLAND, Natalie and Elliot will hit the road, traveling across the country with their band on a headline tour. The 21-city tour will kick off on April 22nd in Chicago, IL and conclude on May 20th in Minneapolis, MN. Weatherman will provide support in Minneapolis and James Supercave is on all other dates with the exception of Chicago. Fans can visit www.wildbelle.com for updates and announcements.
