New York City-based singer-songwriter Sophie Strauss is excited to present the second track off of her forthcoming debut EP, Yeah No Fine. Premiered by American Songwriter, “Walk Easy” is a song about the distance it takes to get over a failed relationship, and as Strauss points out, “about realizing you deserve better but also knowing you had hand in making everything fall apart.” Check out “Walk Easy” via American SongwriterHERE.
Sophie Strauss sings “I feel I’m the devil/I feel I’m possessed/Have you ever met a woman better dressed?” in “Walk Easy” off her 2016 debut showcase, the 7-song EP titled Yeah No Fine. In lyrics equal parts self-deprecating and self-possessed, Strauss winks at her neuroses as she blends her obsession with vintage clothing and her years of experience working in a butcher shop with those perennial standbys: love and hypochondria.
In between shifts selling peaches at the Santa Monica farmers market, Strauss recorded Yeah No Fine at Endless Noise Studios with Jeff Elmassian and it is as much a glance at the California landscape as it is a portrait of the cramped isolation of NYC, informed by musical influences such as Van Morrison, Jenny Lewis and Fiona Apple.
She now splits her time between New York City and Los Angeles, where she’s played at venues such as the House of Blues and Room 5, and back east where she was a part of the Brooklyn Rod & Gun music scene. At 22, Sophie has created a complicated, relatable album evoking indie pop and Americana, updated with electric guitar, synth, and lyrics that are as playful as they are wrenching.
Sophie Strauss will be making the following appearances during March and April in New York with more to follow. Dates below.
21 – Brooklyn, NY – Pete’s Candy Store
