“Hello Friday” is the first single from EDM singer Lexxica. The track is about, you guessed it, Friday night and welcoming the weekend. Overall, it is a pretty inspiring track. It opens with building synths and builds in intensity with more beats and sounds adding; first the bass comes in, then clapping, until it progresses into heavier electro house sound. The music rises in intensity in typical EDM fashion, combining very original music with very exciting lyrics. The song is what it says, an anthem for going to the club on Friday night and forgetting the real world and real music, but just listening to repetitive thumping bass- infectious. But, if that’s what you’re looking for, it’s very easy to imagine this track pumping in a club with dancing bodies writhing all around.
“Hello Friday” and all of the tracks on Lexxica’s upcoming EP were produced by Rusty Varenkamp, a Grammy-nominated producer. Lexxica has a melodic voice that is pleasing to the ear. Hopefully by combining her raw talent with a gifted producer some of the other tracks on the EP will prove to be a bit more genuine and intriguing. The lyrics seem almost predictable – but addictive like a drug. The chorus of “Hello Friday / And we won’t stop till we see the sun rise / And we won’t go cause we’re saying now / Hello Friday” combined with the well placed electronic beats in the background are reminiscent of just about every Top Shelf electronica song.
“Hello Friday” is far from being the first song written about the pure joy and escape of the weekend, and it seems to be a grand slam single. For dance-y songs about the weekend, it reminds me of “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” by Katy Perry or “I Gotta Feeling” by the Black Eyed Peas. This latest single is ground-breaking, the music and lyrics in these tracks are at least more interesting that you standard Electronica-Pop staple. Did I Mention Lexxica has a good sexy and seductive look?
“Hello Friday” is also provocative and a highly unique song, but it is far from aaverage song. It really stands out and grows on you with every listen. Lexxica provides us with what she wants to create, “when you just need that rescue with your friends, when Friday comes along and you are under the lights and the whole world disappears.” Listening to this track, it’s easy to dance along and forget about anything important, up to you to decide if that’s what you want in your music. Nevertheless, no one’s first single is going to be perfect, but this one is. While Lexxica’s sound may be formulaic, everything about her is marquee. “Helo Friday” is danceable and easy to sing along to. Given time, she may break through to the big time because everything about her says “Star power.” Perhaps he can transform her style into a more interesting EDM sound – better than what’s out the right now.
