INTERVIEW: L.A. Knights

Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

We have been super busy! This cd was two years in the making and now we are swamped with interviews and promotions! Thanks so much for taking with us!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Devil On My Heels”?

Actually the first single i is Psychoanalyze…Devil will be the second…but it is song that was sick in my head (Jozey) for weeks and I am very proud I got it out of there and love the melody and lyrics that Dave used…i love this song!

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

Just the fact that we all seem to be walking that line between being focused on life and doing the right things….but that side of is sideways looking temptation in the eyes and wanting to go be bad for a little bit…lol

The single comes off your new EP Psychoanalize – what’s the story behind the title?

Psychoanalyze is basically Dave (our Singer and along with myself…co-writer of all the songs)getting some of the thoughts in his head out before going nuts…just freaked out by the world today! And then the shrink walks in and she is hot…lol

How was the recording and writing process?

Very long, but very fun! Save and I wrote all the tunes except Dance in my living room on acoustic guitar…then brought them to the band…that took a year. We went into Custom Audio Mutations Studio in Akron in February and it took a year to complete. It was a crazy year with lineup changes, I personally got sick and had heart surgery, we had other personal and family issues that delayed things…but in the end producer Curran Murphy (Shatter Messiah, ex-Annihilator, ex-Nevermore guitarist) pulled the best performances out of each member and kept things together for us. We are so proud of the cd…there are 11 songs including a killer cover of the Beatles song Hard Days Night!

What was it like to work with Tim Owens and how did that relationship develop?

Tim has known Dave and I for years and I actually worked for him at a restaurant he owned. He was playing a cd for a killer band he is in with Kerrie Kelli formerly of Alice Cooper…it was really cool and when it was over I said it would be cool if he sang in our cd and he said to get him the track! He had a killer studio in his basement and he laid out some awesome tracks…along with his business partner and my god friend Micah Posten who does all the low end vocals on the tune! I can never repay them for the job they did!

Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?

Dave and I write from all different places…we are usually topic driven…or melody driven…we have a topic idea and wrote about it…or we have a killer melody and the lyrics blind of flow. Devil is a song that was riff driven…i had a riff in my head for six weeks and then Dave and I put words to that.

What role does Motley Crue and Guns N’ Roses plays a role in your music? In my mind as a song writer, those bands are huge influences…

Nikki Sixx is an amazing song writer and Slash writes great riffs…add some George Lynch from Dokken and Tracii Guns from L. A. Guns and you have my influences…Dave is a huge Queen, Motley, David Bowie, and Judas Priest fan…sky he brings that to the mix…we learned the common thread between all those bands are melody and catchy choruses…Anthems!

Any plans to hit the road?

Yes…we are looking at some festivals and bike week appearances as well as some touring in support of national acts.

What else is happening next in LA Knights’ world?

We are planning the promotions for the actual release of the cd on April 8th and filming videos for Dance and Devil On My Heels (featuring Tim Owens!)…then it will be six months of promotions and shows!
