I’ve been fantastic, despite not sleeping much recently! Lots of fun content will be hitting the interwebs in the next few weeks.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Larger Than This Life”?
This song is the first original song I’ve ever released on a large scale, so I’m really excited to see how people respond to it.
It’s really energetic, and so much fun to play live. It feels like you’re in a movie, since it has a serious “epic movie soundtrack” vibe to it, with a very positive message.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
Not any one event in particular – it more encapsulates my overall views on true love & how it feels to recognize it.
The lyrics were written from the perspective of completely falling in love with someone, and having this suspicion that maybe you’ve met in a past life. It’s an introspective look into how you can feel so connected to someone that it feels like fate, and the whole universe is held together by your bond. Sappy, I know, but come on – who hasn’t fallen that hard?
Any plans to release a video for this song?
Yes! As we speak, the final edits are being done on a really fun video we shot here in Orange County, where we interviewed families, friends, and couples on the street and asked them to define Love. What was funny is how difficult it was for some people to answer – not because they didn’t know – but rather they had a hard time condensing such a powerful force into a short sentence. We got some really hilarious and touching responses, and interviewed a really wide range of people/relationships. The video is definitely moving.
How was the recording and writing process?
Oh, it was a dream come true – I had mostly formed the whole thing before bringing it to my studio team, so the production process was effortless. We recorded at Hybrid Studios in Santa Ana, CA with Grammy-winning producer/engineer Phil Allen at the helm, who also played bass on the record. The other musicians that played were Justin Norman on guitar & Ryan Smith on drums, and all three of them are known as The Hitstorm – seriously the most talented studio team I’ve ever worked with. They made the whole process so easy and elevated the energy of the music to such a high level.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
Larger Than This Life is the very first track off my full length debut album, Manifesto. Keep your eyes & ears open, as we will be releasing another single or two before the full length is available. Everything is done, we just want to serve up some appetizers before the main course!
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
Manifesto is currently slated to release internationally this Spring.
Any plans to hit the road?
We definitely want to hit the road as soon as possible. This record was completely crowd-funded and has been in the works for over a year, so its been agonizing having it sitting in the wings while we sort out all the pieces on the back end.
What else is happening next in Morgan Mallory’s world?
If any of your readers are going to be in Orange County this April 17, I’m booked to play main stage at the House of Blues in Anaheim (Downtown Disney) for this incredible festival called Local Brews Local Grooves. It’s the most impressive arts community event I’ve ever had the privilege to be a part of, where they highlight 15+ of the best local breweries and 15+ of the best local musical acts.
It gets slammed every time they do it, so if anyone wants free tickets, they can contact me throughwww.morganmallory.com – I’ll hook them up!
