INTERVIEW: Lord Funk

Hi Dalmasso, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hi Vents, really good thank you.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Global Warming”?

Back in the day of GFunk style, with his bass synth, got the way to make you dance body to body… »Global Warming » is the track with gonna bring you in higher degrees, your music forecast today: Hot Hot Hot!!!!!

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

After watching a documentary on “planet earth” i was thinking about the Global warming coming time after time, there was a time that i wanna try a song as you can find on Kleeer lp “Intimate connection”.

Why naming the album after this track in particular?

I don’t know what happened but ,at the end of the documentary ,i turn on my MPC and start to think about my first Lp with this title…

How was the recording and writing process?

Before my drums, i was searching sounds like “Mtume” stuff on “Tie me up”, searching on my Korg the sound of boogie synth from early 80’s, the song was write in 3 days cause i knew what exactly i want, but during that time i was thinking to use for the lyrics some record forecast and for the chorus as my remember of “Jungle Fever” Spike Lee’s movie at the beginning with (Samuel L. Jackson) radio show, but for all that i ll put a month to finish the lyrics…

What role does the 80s played on this album?

Everything, on this album i was in a mood to try all my favorite style in 80’s who been influenced by funk, gfunk, pfunk , disco rap, italo disco, go go, 83 is the time i’ll start to buy boogie funk and mix in my bedroom after listening free radio station during few years making tapes.

Did you intended to make a 80s driven record or how did that happened?

It was totally intended to try to find the nearest color of those time, there is only one track more “NuDisco” who is between 80’s Disco and now on “What you need”.

Do you take a different approach when you do samples for someone else than when you do it for your own project?

Of course, for my own project i love to across the borders. On this one i was totally in a mood to make an 80’s boogie album, searching the right music’s color.

For someone else, it depend the order ,but i m not using automatically sampling….

Any plans to hit the road?

As a Dj, i hit already the road, but i think that it would be great to propose a live + Dj party.

I’m finishing to prepare a small live with my MC « Real Fake » and  my old partner on « The Funk Hunt » Guitarist and Keyboard « Djazzafonk » and me on MPC and Laptop, to propose a showcase.

What else is happening next in Lord Funk’s world?

You can ear me every saturday on « Radiomarais » (2hours show) and also on Rinse France. As Dj i will be with Dj Cam and Venice Beach 12 march in Paris, if you around 😉

Few projects are on the side, remix or production. I’m in love by the 60’s sounds to now so different color can appears on different work.

I’ll take care of my label « Boogie Butt records » and preparing few stuff on it.

I’ve got a 60’s psychedelic pop that i m finishing as a soundtrack, and also an afro tropical project album under the name of « The Tropical Combo «
