INTERVIEW: Eric Taylor Escudero

Hi Eric, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Great! Thanks!

Can you tell us more about the story behind your track ¨Uncountable Colours of The Sky’?

The Uncountable Colours Of The Sky is a song about the beauty in the things that surrounds us. If we pay attention, there are these amazing things happening around us all the time, we just have to look closely. That´s what it´s about.

Did any event in particular inspire the song?

I had the idea during a sunset on the beach, the sky was really full of different colours, it was like a natural work of art, but most people didn´t even notice.

The single comes off your new album We Were Young And It Was Morning – what´s the story behind the title?

It´s an idea that I´ve had for a long time. I had it even before I wrote We Were Young and It Was Morning parts 1 and 2. It seemed to fit perfectly both of the songs. Besides, the passing of time is a recurring theme in the album. It´s very nostalgic in a way and features songs that have been written for the past 10 years, so in a way, it´s almost like a portrait of my younger years. So, I think the this title can represent that perfectly.

How was the recording and writing process?

The songs have been written and re-written many times. Some of them are quite new, some of them are very old. The writing process was long and I allowed it take as long as was necessary.

The recording was done during 20 days in Austin. It was a great experience, and I had some great musicians with me.

How Brazil have influence your music?

In many ways. Living here influences my music a lot, the cities, the landscapes, the nature, all of this are inspiring themes, and are present in my music. It would be impossible for me to write this songs anywhere else. Besides that, my favorite poet Casimiro de Abreu is a huge influence for my songwriting.

What nostalgia and losses influence the lyrics on this record?

It´s a generic feeling of losing, of all the things that time takes away, of all the changes that are not really up to you. All songs are different and were inspired by different events, but that´s a feeling that they have in common.

Any plans to hit the road?

Sure, I hope to tour the UK next year, and maybe North America later.

What else is happening next in Eric Taylor Escudero´s world?

I´ve been recording and editing some promo videos. I´ve also been writing a few songs that are going to be in my next record.
