Today we revealed the second video from VISIONS, “QACHINA,” which was premiered by Aquarium Drunkard here. This follows the first single “Exit 353” which was premiered by NPR Music in December 2015, and the “Exit 353” video which earned raves from Spin, Stereogum and other key outlets.
Of “QACHINA” video director James Halland notes, “My goal with the music video was to make the viewer feel like they are watching a fever dream. We spent four days wandering the desert filming everywhere from Joshua Tree to Salton Sea. My goal was to use everyday people, objects and places to make it unsettling but not scary.” Jurado adds, “The video was shot on film and a Super 8 camera. Jordan worked a lot from the imagery seen on the album cover. It is captured as a wonderful psychedelic interpretation of what I feel is the spirit, and at times, open-ended, colorful feeling of this new album.”
VISIONS OF US ON THE LAND is the final installment of Jurado’s trilogy, which began with 2012’s MARAQOPA and continued with 2014’s BROTHERS AND SISTERS OF THE ETERNAL SON. VISIONS is the last part of the story, which began when a character had to disappear from society in order to discover some universal truths. At this point, the individual has been left behind, by an earth now vacant. VISIONS was produced by label mate and super-producer Richard Swift at the latter’s National Freedom recording facility in rural Oregon.
Named “the godfather of the Seattle folk boom” by the Seattle Times. Jurado has worked with and been influenced by numerous notable artists over the course of his 20 year career. Musicians include: Moby, Fleet Foxes, Father John Misty, Jason Molina, Lotte Kestner, David Bazan, The Head and the Heart, Sharon Van Etten and many more. His dedicated following consists of fans from his beginning days at Sub Pop Records to the new fans that are just discovering his music. His ability to create art by his own rules has made him a visionary and a mainstay in the independent music world.
