Loren Smith Teams with Slam Poet For Reworking of “Break Free”‏

Pop vocalist and pianist, Loren Smith, recently dropped the groundbreaking reworking of his single, “Break Free,” titled “Break Free: The Late Night Mix” in collaboration with illustrious slam poet, Jeremiah Blue. The brilliant blend of Smith’s unparalleled vocals and Blue’s masterful performance of verse, leave listeners absolutely breathless and is now streaming on YouTube.

Originally an up-tempo mesh of soul and pop, “Break Free,” debuted purely as a dance pop single in the summer of 2014, which went viral shortly after it was featured on NBC’s Today Show, reaching over 20,000 views in just under two months. As Smith’s innovation in composition is ceaseless, when he reconnected with college acquaintance Jeremiah Blue a few months ago, he “jumped at the chance to collaborate on something special and unique.” The result is, “Break Free: The Late Night Mix,” using the upbeat original tune, turned tantalizing soul piece that awes its audience with just a piano and two voices. The song combines the two alluring art forms of music and spoken word. Lyrically, the critical message of prevailing through difficult times in order to discover better days, shines through both the music and poetry.  The music video was filmed live in Phoenix, Arizona in a single take, as viewers can feel the raw authenticity of the song’s message. Smith says the single, “offers one message in two ways”— Blue speaks with a supreme passion as Smith tenderly moves his way across the keys delivering heart wrenching vocals, such that the duo allows viewers to absorb the sincere words of perseverance and following dreams, a topic both artists know very well.

Growing up in a musical family in Oakland, California, Loren Smith was surrounded by rhythm and melody and describes his path as inevitable. “I was never given a choice to sing. Singing was second nature for me,” Smith stated.  After studying music in college, Smith went on to pursue a successful career performing professionally for television, background singing, and countless shows at venues such as, Universal Studios Hollywood and the Olympic Opening Ceremonies. Following years of performing as a back up singer and dancer, Smith decided it was time to step out on his own and begin his solo career as an artist. Accrediting his inspiration to music greats such as Luther Vandross, Whitney Houston and Stevie Wonder, Smith has taken the world by storm with his beautiful voice. He has performed hundreds of shows worldwide, and earned the title of “the Luther Vandross of the next generation”. He is dedicated to continue inspiring audiences and has a passion for both people and music.

Always moving audiences with his soulful performance and musical ingenuity, “Break Free: The Late Night Mix” is a testament to Smith’s true artistry and Jeremiah’s Blue’s craft as a wordsmith.
