After sharing “Repeater” near the close of 2015, London’s Jelani Blackman is back today to share “Submarine,” the second track from his forthcoming release for Quality Time Recodings. “Submarine”, produced by FRED and Jelani, first premiered this morning on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show as well as online via Pigeons & Planes. Jelani’s forthcoming 1-4, which will see release on February 19th, is a series of singles collected as an EP. Listen here.
Speaking about “Submarine,” Jelani shares, “Being a submarine is when you’re still moving when the night reaches the deep end.”

Blackman grew up making grime as a London schoolboy in the mid ’00s before honing his unique sound. The 4-track EP follows two very promising offerings that landed last year and marked Jelani out as a one to watch: twisted after-dark anthem “Twenty//Three”, named Noisey’s 7th best track of 2014, and a mesmerising collaboration with ascendant production duo Sylas and ambient god Brian Eno on “Layer”.
Having bided his time after his only solo release, he now promises to share his work. He will be releasing a succession of singles which will be released digitally as EPs by Quality Time (EP’s 1-4 and 4-8), a mixtape, and more collaborations.
“His voice is deeper than a well,” wrote Noisey of Jelani last year, “and I can’t stop falling in”.
