INTERVIEW: Awake At Last

Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

We’ve been great. We are looking forward to making the best of 2016!

Can you tell us more about the story behind your track ¨Never Be A Memory¨?

Never Be A Memory is meant to be a song of anthemic roots that will hopefully inspire and encourage artists to overcome all of the obstacles that stand in our way during these changing tides in the world of all aspects of art.

Did any event in particular inspire the song?

It was primarily inspired by all of the other amazing musicians and other artists I have met. I wanted something to give them strength to continue forward on the journey.

How was the film experience?

The experience was great.  Tom and Mike were amazing to work with and it was fun actually getting into it and doing some acting where in the previous video we just did the performance part. Definitely something I would like to do again.

How was the recording and writing process?

I enjoyed working on this song because the band was going through a transitional phase and through all the discord and disharmony when we finally came together never be a memory was the result and it was awesome to feel that struggle and that fight in the song because that’s what we wanted to project with it.

What was it like to work with Mike Watts and how did that relationship develop?

Mike Watts was great to work with because he helped the band figure out what kind of vision we wanted to bring to the songs and did a lot with trying to develop it.  He recorded our guitarist’s old band years ago and he had kept in touch. The vocal booth in there was amazing and I loved producing vocals with him.

How much did he get to influence the song?

Mike firmly believes in helping an artist shape their own vision while putting in his own input – he wants to shape us to sound like ourselves.

On what other obstacles did you focus on this album?

Fear, uncertainty, insecurity, trial and error.  We want to paint a portrait of the artistic struggle.

Any plans to hit the road?

We hit the road again this February and have dates lined up through the end of March, when we go in to record our new EP in April.

What else is happening next in Awake At Last´s world?

We are recording a new EP in April and we are all extremely excited to find out what comes next for our sound and our vision.  Everything feels fresh and free again and we look forward to developing the sound further and bringing a new vision to this ever changing music scene.
