Hi Alex, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
AB: I’ve been laying low for the past year. I’m just happy to be alive and making noise again.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Run Like Hell“?
AB: It was 2 years in the making. I had the idea for it in my head for a years time and then actually started putting it together a little over a year ago.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
AB: Not really. The song isn’t meant to be taken very literally. To me, It’s about when you let your demons get in the way of your relationships.
Why sampling these two tracks in particular?
AB: From the moment I heard “Hurt” it always had a huge impact on me. Everything about it gave me such a unique and powerful feeling. I wanted that vibe in my song. The “C.R.E.A.M.” sample is pretty random. I was just fooling around with it one day and liked the way it sounded.
How was the recording and writing process?
AB: It was long but very rewarding. It taught me patience.
Does the new single mean we can expect new material – how’s that coming along?
AB: Yes, I will be finished with my new album within the next few weeks.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
AB: It is called “Dead, In The Water” and it will be here in the spring.
Would you keep using other songs samplings on this new record?
AB: There is quite a bit of sampling on this record, yes.
Any plans to hit the road?
AB: No plans at this time.
What else is happening next in Alex Bent + The Emptiness’ world?
AB: Continuing to build anticipation for this album. A friend of mine told me the other day that this album is most likely going to be a contender for “album of the year” for him. I want to make sure as many people hear it as possible. I’m very proud of what I have created.
