INTERVIEW: Pop Punk Band Glass Mansions

Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hello! Thanks for having us – we’re great and have been very busy! 🙂

Can you tell us more about the story behind your upcoming track ¨Matches¨?

“Matches” is about revenge, but in a different kind of way. It’s about almost letting yourself fall for someone’s tricks – but then snapping out of it and watching them self destruct from the sidelines instead.  Sonically, it’s a bit more aggressive for us and playing it live lets us tap into this very raw rock n roll energy that we’ve never really chartered before.

Did any event in particular inspire the song?

Yes.  I knew someone who was seemingly amazing and we could’ve probably been something in another life – but then you step back and focus the picture and realize how much of a mess someone is behind closed doors – that their self destruction is their own. One day I just thought, “Wow, I wonder which he goes through faster: lovers or matches for his cigarettes?” And the idea for the song came from that and pretty much wrote itself.

How was the recording and writing process?

Recording “Matches” was a very fun experience and probably one of the more challenging songs we’ve recorded. We went back into the studio with producers Zack Odom and Kenneth Mount on this one, which is always a dream come true. There are some really high notes in this one so sometimes I’d have vocal takes where you just have to close your eyes and hope for the best – I call them hail mary notes! Haha

Besides the name, what else has changed?

I think our perspective. We spent most of 2015 out on the road playing music conferences and networking with some power players in the music industry – We’ve made some incredible friends, but I think after a while you start chasing your business connections instead of focusing on the music, and this year we’re trying to get back to that…to put all our attention back on making music and the reasons why we started this band.

Does the new single mean we can expect new material – how´s that coming along?

Yes. We’ve actually been in the studio quite a bit while no one was looking 😉 – We will be releasing a new EP in 2016.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Not just yet. We’re still finishing a few demos that are contenders for the EP, and that missing piece just hasn’t manifested yet – we’ve put a lot of pressure on ourselves to outdo anything we’ve put out before. But it IS coming sooner than later this year. A summer release would be fitting given what our second single will be.

Any plans to hit the road?

Understatement of the year! 🙂 We’re at our best when we’re out on the road in new cities and getting to play new rooms and meet new people. Our goal is to triple the amount of shows we played last year – with more festival slots in 2016, too. A Tour announcement will be coming soon (brand new cities we’ve never played, too!) – so keep a lookout!

What else is happening next in Glass Mansions´ world?

More visuals. More art. More creating. We’re still a DIY band at heart, but we’re trying to get even more creative in what we can do ourselves this year.  We’re currently doing some set design and building our own lighting system for when we hit the road again in a few months – we’re very excited to create a new live experience for our fans 🙂
