INTERVIEW: Coll

Hi Coll, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

I’m all good, thank you.

Can you tell us more about the story behind your track ¨What They Call Me¨?

I made the beat for What They Call Me at the start of 2015 and i was just experimenting with new sounds as an artist. The main aim for it was just to try something new & to make my audience see a more upbeat side to COLL.

Did any event in particular inspire the song?

A lot of things inspired this track. I always write about things that happen in my life, but this time I was inspired by the beat and the lyrics came after.

How was the film experience?

Really good, we filmed the video in a few hours and most of the scenes took only one shot because the energy on the day was really positive from everyone on set. For me it is my favourite video i have done to date.

How was the recording and writing process?

The recording and writing was the easiest part of this track because i had the beat stored away on my computer for so long so. The time then came to finish the track i was so ready for it.

I could also tell it was a good song because of the reaction from everyone in the studio too.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how´s that coming along?

Definitely, i am currently finalising my new mixtape that I’m releasing this year so there will be more music from me in the next few months.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

I am aiming for the mixtape to be out around April/ May time so will confirm the name of the mixtape and exact release date on my website before the month ends.

Any plans to hit the road?

I have shows coming up this February on the 16th (Cafe 1001) in Brick lane and on the 24th in Shoreditch’s Blueberry bar. I will confirm more shows on my website soon too so do keep a look out.

What else is happening next in Coll´s world?

Right now the main focus is to finish the mixtape and to continue making new music for all the people who listen to me out there. I will also be posting some freestyle videos and some clips of me in the studio in the coming weeks so people can follow the making of the Mixtape as i do it.
