STARWALKER – Air’s JB Dunckel & Bang Gang’s Bardi Johannsson – Announce Debut Album!‏

French electro-pop trailblazer Jean-Benoit Dunckel [Air, Tomorrow’s World, Darkel] and acclaimed Icelandic composer and musical visionary Barði Jóhannsson [Bang Gang, Lady & Bird] have been teasing out music as Starwalker since 2014, and today the duo finally unveil the details of their debut album. The self-titled LP will be released April 1st on Prototyp Recording & Bang ehf via Sena ehf. Pre-order will be available on iTunes on Tuesday with a bonus instant grat of “Crazy On You” – PRESS HERE to pre-order tomorrow.

Starwalker offered a first look at the album at the end of last year, premiering the gorgeously hypnotic “Le President” via Pitchfork, and today they share the album’s first single “Everybody’s Got Their Own Way.” Juxtaposing a soothing melody with a sun-kissed beat and bright keys, the song instantly captivates, igniting an unshakable chant. With its sci-fi soundscape and robotic swagger, it could soundtrack the ultimate interplanetary disco bash. PRESS HERE to listen via Stereogum now.

While Dunckel and Johannsson are well known for prior endeavors, Starwalker is by no means just a side project – it is the coming-together of two musical innovators, creating the music they were destined to make. The album intermingles cinematic expanse, intergalactic instrumentation, entrancing electronics, and sticky hooks, yielding a poetic pop pastiche of the highest order. The result is an accomplished debut, 10 tracks reflecting a singular vision from two musical icons.

Each track on this record showcases the beauty of two musical masterminds such as Johannsson and Dunckel coming together. A blissful, Icelandic children’s choir appears on both the album opener “Holidays” and “Come And Stay.” Shimmering electronics announce the arrival of “Le Président,” eventually culminating on a gorgeously somber outro. Previously released single “Blue Hawaii” paints a chilled portrait of pastels in brushstrokes of breathy vocals and synths. “Radio” incorporates a light dose of seventies swing into a dreamy soundscape, while “Demeter” bounces from a complex drum pattern into an enigmatic and emotional refrain.

Starwalker‘s striking debut will be a welcome addition to your record collection in 2016.
