1.Hi Whitney, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Thank you. I’ve been well! Feeling my way through the music industry since moving to Los Angeles a little over a year ago.
2.Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Lights”?
“Lights” is a story about finding someone during astral travel, or a meditative state and falling in love with them while in that state, never knowing them in the physical form.
3.Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?
I’ve been really intrigued by astral travel and astral projection and have been reading a lot on it. And I love the idea of falling in love with someone without ever touching them, or knowing what they look like.
4.How was the recording and writing process?
It was pretty seamless, though it isn’t always so with songwriting. Sometimes I’m working on the same song for a month, and other times, I finish a song in a few hours. This one took a little over a day to write and finish most of the production work.
5.What did you learn from your days as a The Voice contestant?
I learned that competition in music can be a great thing that can push you past places you thought you could go. I learned that there are A TON of really talented people working hard towards their dreams. And I learned that at the end of the day, it’s a just T.V. show.
6.The single means we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
Yes indeed. I’m currently working on two separate projects. One that will have more music along the lines of “Lights” and another that has more of a synth-rock up beat vibe.
7.Any tentative release date or title in mind?
I’m about to release another single called “Somehow”. I’m really proud of this song and I think it’s a really authentic emotion that gets displayed in the lyrics. It’s a little gooey. And by gooey, I mean sappy. And by sappy, I mean it’s awesome.
8.Any plans to hit the road?
Definitely. When my next two projects are done, I hope to be touring shortly after.
9.What else is happening next in Whitney Myer’s world?
I’ve had some (as of yet) unreleased songs placed in T.V. and commercials which has been awesome! I recently started playing the bass, and this year I bought my first Christmas tree, so I feel like a bonafide adult. Next steps are making more music and sharing it in the most impactful way with as many people as I can.
