Hi Aucan, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Francesco: Hello guys! We’re fine… playing live shows and working on the release of our new album “Stelle Fisse”
Jo: …and already busy with a new music flow in the studio…
Can you tell us more about the story behind your track ¨Disto¨?
Francesco: Disto is the “craziest” track on the album… we started out with some saturated drum machines, then we jammed with a weird nineties-like synth lead which was doing very unexpected things … as we often do we’ve been keeping the improvisation part, which was impossible to replicate.
Jo: Additional drums and vocals have been added later with friends who were passing by the studio… then we’ve been reworking all of the material until the very end…we’ve been able to add some drums on a track at the mastering session….
Did any event in particular inspire the song?
Francesco: Many things have been inspiring the whole album…
Jo: …most of all friends, travels and a constant research about human identity… having a degree in philosophy (we met at the college) doesn’t help and we often get into endless reflections 🙂
The single comes off your new album Stelle Fisse – what´s the story behind the title?
Francesco: Everything around you is fickle and it’s hard to do something “out of time”. That was the idea, to make something permanent…
Jo: …something safe, something timeless… To see if it worked out we will have to listen to the album in our 90s (if we’re not deaf by then!)
How was the recording and writing process?
Jo: We started with some hardware studio sessions, wiring together all the machines we have and trying different combinations.
Francesco: We always keep raw ideas, recording tons of material. After the first, rough drafting, we spend most of the time subtracting what we don’t like.
So in some way would you say this is a concept album?
Jo: It’s not a concept album but there are many concepts behind it.
Francesco: There’s a common ground, and a transversal imagery within the tracks. We decided to work on all the tracks at the same time, so each song has been influenced by the others.
Where did you find the inspiration for the songs on the album?
Francesco: Facing ourselves with what we’ve been doing in our previous records has been very important for sure.
Jo: Also, dealing with sound and visual design and performing the tracks live in the same period , which is something we always do…
Any plans to hit the road?
Jo: The album came out a few weeks ago and we are already on tour – Paris and Milan (with Kode 9) are coming soon…
Francesco: Aucan is most of all a live project so experiencing our Audio/Visual show is the best way to understand the ideas we try to express!
What else is happening next in Aucan´s world?
Jo: We are very busy working with the release and with all the team at Kowloon planning things for the future…
Francesco: …including new music of course… this album was just a beginning for us…
