INTERVIEW: Aaron Camper

Hi Aaron, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

I’ve been great! Super busy, but it’s the good kind..thanks for having me!

Can you tell us more about the story behind your latest track ¨Choose You¨?

“Choose You” is a song I did with two homies of mine and great producers Steve McKie and Corey Bernhard (Killiam Shakespeare) out of Philly.  I just wanted to take a chance to get a clear, intentional point across. Love. The song feels like ride, a vibe…ya know… The kinda song I feel is necessary to hear right now considering everyone’s current love/dating/relationship scenario right now lol. For R&B music, its honest and I’m cool with that too.

Did any event in particular inspire this song?

I’d say an unfolding of many events in my personal dating experiences, being an artist and all the winding roads that come with that, and lastly again I’d add the current social media climate right all kind of inspired me.

How was the recording and writing process?

The process was very therapeutic actually, I haven’t been in a good writing flow like this in awhile where I’m cranking out more solid feelings than leaving the audience guessing. My man Kevin Guyton and I just get together and write more freely now, I’m enjoying this process.

What have you learned from sharing the stage with some of the most iconic names in the industry?

Man I’ve been blessed to work with a lot of great names and I don’t take it for granted. I think what I’ve gained most is applying the same amount of hard and tireless work that goes into all of those artists’ brands behind the scenes. That alone kept me wanting to learn more, I wanted to learn first hand what I could improve on and get better at. Every working experience showed me something and I’m grateful.

Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics on this record?

I sat back and listened. I had conversations, I tried to see what I could say to make the female listener feel wanted, comforted, protected… loved. That’s all.

Do you take a different approach when you are writing for your solo project than when you write for someone else?

Yes. Total different approach. As a writer sometimes it gets hard (for me I know). Especially when you work for so many different people you sorta have to lock in to help them get that certain job done. Same with writing, for others I try to tap into everything they wanna bring out of a record. For me, I’ve gotta tune into myself and start the searching for words there.

Does the new single mean we can expect an album – how´s that coming?

Yes, absolutely. Currently working on wrapping up my next body of work it’s a project called B.L.O.W. (better left on wax). It’s a culmination of all these things..constantly being on the road, working with the best while trying to be the best..and in love. There’s alotta stories, highlights and lows in between this scenario that we’re currently working and wrapping and I can’t wait to share.

Any tentative release date in mind?

No.. lol, Don’t wanna stick my foot in my mouth but it’s around any corner, any time now.

How are you preparing for your upcoming tour with JOJO?

I can’t wait! I’ve been running rehearsals, spot dates, sessions and now tour rehearsals and I just can not wait to get it rolling. There’s a song called “Losing Myself” on the EP that JoJo sang on as well and it’s an incredible record..ill have to send you guys a peak soon.

How did you come on board on this tour?

I’ve known JoJo for about 3 or 4 years now and it was just something our teams have always tried to work out over the years. Luckily the musical stars have aligned and finally we can make it happen.

What can we expect from this stint of gigs?

Good energy is gonna come from this run, I can feel. I’m positive that the music and the honesty and the feelings in the both of us will shine thru, grab the people and make it something they’ll remember and talk about.

What else is happening next in Aaron Camper´s world?

World domination. Lol I mean I’m just blessed to be able to be here at this point so after getting this new music out there’ll be more, and then more…then maybe some television action and who knows whatever else. Whatever my hands are able to do I’m gonna go with it!
