INTERVIEW: On The Open Road

Q: Hi guys, welcome to VENTS!
A: Hello! Thank you for having us.

Q: How have you been?
A: Very well thank you.

Q: Can you tell us more about the story behind your track ¨Rainy Days¨?
A: The instrumentation side of the song came about quite quickly, we had that song written for about a year before we recorded it this summer. The lyrics however kept changing slightly for about 6 months prior to the recording process. The lyrics ended up being spiteful and quite angry in certain sections. Rainy Days is the perfect song to release as a first single because it shows what we have to offer with the new EP and a fourth member. Hopefully the response will be good when we release it!

Q: Did any event in particular inspire the song?
A: What inspired the lyrics for this song was a group of certain girls that I knew a few years ago. I took Parker Cannon (vocalist of The Story So Far) as a big inspiration with how I approached the subject of the song, which is similar to some of The Story So Far’s lyrical content.

Q: The single comes off your new EP Storyteller – what´s the story behind the title?
A: We had that title for quite a while before we even finished writing all the songs for the EP. The story behind the title is basically to do with the lyrical content of the songs; each song deals with a different subject matter and tells a different story, and I think the title groups all of that into one word.

Q: How was the recording and writing process?
A: The recording process was a lot more efficient and more enjoyable compared to the recording process of our debut EP, “Hold On To This”. Everything ran smoothly and I think that’s because we spent a lot more time on perfecting these songs before recording them. The writing process for this EP felt a lot more natural as well.

Q: On what aspects of your life did you guys inspire to write the lyrics on this album?
A: The lyrics are based on different experiences in life, this goes from problems with girls, to problems with family, to life in a hospital ward and much more.

Q: Any plans to hit the road?
A: Yes! We already have a lot of shows booked in for 2016 which we should be able to start announcing in the next few weeks. Some of these shows are with some of our favourite bands in the UK scene so we’re really looking forward to announcing everything soon!

Q: What else is happening next in On The Open Road´s world?
A: On top of our EP release and all the shows/tours we have planned, we will continue writing new music, release a few music videos throughout the new year, and do everything we can to make sure 2016 is our best year yet!
