INTERVIEW: Steamboats

Q: Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
A: Hi VENTS magazine! Thanks for reaching out and taking the time to listen to “Chosen Peace.” We are doing well!

Q: Can you tell us more about the story behind your track ¨Chosen Peace¨? Did any event in particular inspire the song?
A: This track came about during a tumultuous era in songwriter Nick Throop’s relationship at the time. The lyrics detail the hopeless struggle of a couple dealing with a significant other’s shortcomings while being unable to break away from the intense connection they find themselves in.

Q: Why naming the album after this track in particular?
A: We named the album after this song because not only does the title in itself convey a sense of independence and comfort, but the subject matter is something that all can relate to. We felt this way about “Chosen Peace” more than any other song on the album.

Q: How was the recording and writing process?
A: The writing took place in 2012 shortly after the recording of our debut EP. The song and album were mastered by Grammy® Award-winning engineer, Adam Ayan, and recorded by Grammy® Award-winning producer, Will Russell at Electric Wilburland Studio.

Q: Musically speaking, would this be a follow up to your self titled or a departure?
A: In terms of progress, this song epitomizes a leap forward in Steamboats’ songwriting and arrangement. While not being a complete departure from the EP, it’s definitely a more mature and refined sound that has been established.

Q: Any plans to hit the road again? What else is happening next in Steamboats´ world?
A: We’ve just wrapped up our pre-release tour this past November and gave fans a preview of the album due out in January. For now we are taking time off from the road to workshop new original and cover material.
