Melbourne & Los Angeles-based DOCTRIN,the brainchild of Australian-born singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer Dolly Denko announces the January 15th release of the debut EP The Deep. Co-produced by Dolly and Maxwell Moon (Joanna Newsom, Young The Giant) at Seahorse Sound in downtown L.A. the EP features five songs of infectious dark alternative pop that brings to mind shades of Shirley Manson, Placebo and Metric.
The video for the EP’s first single “Give Me Love” premieres today exclusively with Yahoo! Music. Helmed by Ms. Denko herself with cinematography by Heath Saunders (Walk The Moon, Katy Perry) its an edgy and darkly humorous video that deals with unrequited love alongside bondage and burlesque.
“I wanted to combine body positive burlesque-inspired visuals with the song’s message; that you just can’t force love and you’ll be OK on your own in the end,” said Dolly to Yahoo! “You shouldn’t have to beg for love or pull out a bag of tricks. If it’s not there, let it go. Find yourself and eat some cake! The video was incredibly fun to shoot, but that’s easy for me to say because I’m not the one that was tied to a bed having hot wax poured over me!”
Doctrin found initial success in the Australian market with her first two singles including “Take Me”, the video for which — a throwback/tribute to the film The Craft and the Charmed TV series — helped her earn VEVO Australia’s ‘Artist To Watch’ status in May. Soon after she followed her “gut instinct” to visit Los Angeles to write and record under the influence of a new locale, resulting in The Deep.
Doctrin will tour in support of the EP through 2016 with a soon-to-be-announced slate of live dates.
