Slo Light by Neil Davidge (@neildavidge) | RIYL: Massive Attack, Halo 4 OST
RSSS

8.5

If you are a fan from Halo saga and have heard Massive Attack you most likely have heard Neil’s music before. But this time he bring us something between what we know him for with a new twist.

Slo Light is not your typical record. Titled track kicks off the album and immediately you can hear some of Massive Attack in with awesome and dreamy beats with the vocals really gives a specialtouch to the song, not sure why but it somehow takes me to some kind of Trip Hop opera. “Gallant Foxes” it’s a more upbeat track, Catie Le Bon high pitch vocals fits perfectly with the track with a sound reminiscent of bands like Radiohead’s Thom Yorke meets Potishead. “How Was Your Day” would work perfectly maybe in some kind of futuristic movie where there’s a chase, personally I love the last part of the song where we can hear different kind of beats and effects and again Neil did a great work picking Karima Francis really makes an awesome job.

“Home From Home” has this piano that reminded me to Yann Tiersen, this time we have this more low male vocals that match the dramatic/cinematic song, the string arrangements gives a nice vibe. In “They Won’t Know” Stephonik Youth are back and what they bring is really exciting, it’s like Hans Zimmer (Think Inception soundtrack) and Bloc Party decided to make a song together, this will be most likely the result.

Most of all the other tracks in the album follow the same line than the other ones we have been hearing before though truth being told each one has their own twist. Definitely Davidge likes to leave the best for the end.

In conclusion, this might not be a record that everyone’s going to love but those with patience and that loves the band I have been mentioning through the review or Neil’s work, will really have a blast with this one.
