Ajay Mathur Embraces “Americana” on New Release: Come See Conquer
“Diversity” is certainly a word that comes to mind when one thinks of Ajay Mathur. The Indian-born, Switzerland based musician is best known for pop-rock music, but leads us down a new path on his latest release, Come See Conquer. Ajay embraces his love for Americana music on his new EP, and the four track release shines with excellent musicianship and production. It also offers fans a side of Ajay they haven’t experienced on past releases. But regardless of the genre, Ajay’s exceptional guitar playing and songwriting skills remain and his fans won’t be disappointed.
The CD starts off with the title track, “Come See Conquer,” definitely Americana music at its core, with a slight Country feel to it as well. The chorus is catchy, and the musical elements of trading off solos of horns, guitar and bass really work well for the track. A song about the surprise of love, it starts the disc off strongly and sets the pace for what’s to come.
“Temporary” is the closest song to the Ajay that people have grown to admire over the years; it definitely has the most pop-rock elements to it. “All For You” slows things down and shows Ajay’s singer-songwriter side. The track exudes beautiful harmonies and heartfelt lyrics. I consider this track one of the highlights of the disc, with its acoustic feel and gentle approach.
The CD closes with “Flying to the Moon,” which has the most Country music elements of any track on the release. It reminds me of some of The Eagles’ finer tunes, enhanced by slide guitar.
Overall, Come See Conquer is a fine addition to any Americana music collection. It offers a little something for everyone and if surely one of Ajay’s best releases to date. To learn more about Ajay Mathur, visit: www.ajaymathur.com
