INTERVIEW: DawGone Davis
Hi Rebecca, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Doing Well, thank you!!
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Anthem Pandemonium”?
Yes. It was a hoot to write and perform. Original, like all my Songs. I wanted to say hi – to Mr. Lamar.
Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?
I wanted the world to know that I am serious about writing and performing; that I am very different and unique. Entertaining, for certain.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
Hope to do so soon, as it would be hilarious. Did you see Butt on Fiya video? The official video is on YouTube
The single comes off your new album In The Dawg Pound – what’s the story behind the title?
for Anthem Pandemonium’s title, it describes me. My anthem in life is to write, perform, and tour. Life is also hilarious and unpredictable; that is where my whacky pandemonium voice comes in.
How was the recording and writing process?
I write very quickly when the core idea hits. Recording is easy and then Hellmut Wolf, my producer, does his huge Talent stuff. Hellmut is a Godsend.
How Neil Diamond and Elvis has influence your writing?
Neil struck me on the head with songs such as Holly Holy, I Am….I Said, and Crunchy Granola Suite. They move me, big time. I always say that Elvis is still in the House; and we rock and roll to this day (and night).
What role does Missouri play in your music?
I was born in Springfield, MO. My dad was a classically trained pianist at a very young man. Mom is an organist and played For prisoners. LOL true (at the Big House Federal Pen in Leavenworth). She did it with a charitable heart.
How did you intend to approach the comedy on this record?
It all comes out naturally, I never plan a song approach. I let the ideas and images run wild, write them down, and sometime reorder them a bit.
Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
Art at the Louvre, yep. Oldies way too old for me. The lyrics come from my goofy personality. I am a nut bucket and performing ham. I really hope folks hear that no one sounds like me or Writes like I do. Please & Thanks.
Any plans to hit the road?
Yes, I need to hit the road and tour. Hey, I would pay a big whig to pick me up!! If I had the money. This is my Anthem: I am good, different, pick me up!!!!
What else is happening next in DawGone Davis’ world?
Song 6 is going to be Raucous and fast! It has a message… fans will get a shovel and dig it! They know what I’m talkin about.
