Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Undone”?
It’s a song I wrote about someone I once knew.
Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?
No, it was more a culmination of a sequence of events, which are inscribed in the song.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
Maybe I do my videos really last minute, And If the right Idea pops I won’t hesitate to shoot it.
The single comes off your new album The Finest Summersault – what’s the story behind the title?
“Undone” a song off my EP which is sort of a satire on the over-saturation of pop culture, certain trends and societal norms. I wanted to take aim at all of them on one song on the EP, because It was so out of place on the EP as a whole, I figured it would probably be a great Idea to name the whole project after it.
How was the recording and writing process?
I co-produced the entire EP with James Harte and Darren Boling, the skills we learned producing hip hop together transferred to making this kind of record too.
How your upbringing has influence your writing?
I think everybody’s upbringing affects them. My songs are written about things I see when I’m out in the world, and I don’t think too much about where they come from I just try to be ready when they do come.
When an artist has such a connection to an icon in the music scene, that musician tends to seek to stray away from those bonds – is that your case or you rather totally embrace it?
I don’t think about my music in relation to my grandfather’s one bit — nor have I ever. I stay focused on the songs and the shows.
Do you tend to take a different approach when you are collaborating with someone else rather than in your own?
100% When I work on my own records, I try to create my vision. When I produce I’m trying to create the vision the artist has in their mind and try as hard as I can not to impose my own preconceptions on them.
What aspect of perseverance and justice did you get to explore on this record?
I just wrote what I saw, and about real stories that people told me.
Any plans to hit the road?
Soon. No plans for tour yet, but stayed tuned.
What else is happening next in Pablo Dylan’s world?
I’m currently in the studio finishing up my EP and look forward to sharing that top of next year.
