INTERVIEW: Bianca Muniz

Hi Bianca, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hi! I’m good, thank you so much for having me!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “For You”?

Yes absolutely! It is actually one of the first songs I’ve ever written. I wrote it in 2013- my sophomore year of college. It is the first original I ever performed in front of an audience and it is also dedicated to my best friend who passed away a couple of years ago. So this song is very important to me for a couple of different reasons.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

My friend was going through a difficult time and I just wanted him to know that I would always be there for him, no matter what happened in life.

Can you tell us more about the upcoming video?

In the video, there is a terrible storm coming and everything is going to get wiped out. The person I am with wants to leave and try to find shelter, but I just want to live our last day together enjoying each other’s company and doing fun things since everything is going to get destroyed anyway. Finally I convinced him and it’s just us loving each other and being happy.

How was the film experience?

The filming experience was hilarious!! I could not stop laughing! I felt so bad for everyone because one scene that was supposed to take two minutes to film, ended up taking an hour haha! The director/videographer, Frankie Turiano, has such a great energy and personality. We had a lot of fun. We knocked everything out in one day and it was so beautiful and sunny out.

How was the recording and writing process?

The writing process was very peaceful for me. This song just means so much to me. It was also a turning point in my writing. It was the first song I felt proud of.

The recording process was pretty simple for this one! The whole band went in for a couple of hours one day, and we recorded all together. I recorded scratch vocals while they did a live recording. Then I went in another day and recorded the main vocals and harmonies.

We did all the mixing while I was recovering from surgery.

You have been going through a few medical harsh moments with cancer – how has the illness served as an inspiration for the lyrics in your music?

Honestly, having cancer for a second time opened my eyes. It has really shown me what’s important in life, and besides my family and friends, what’s important to me is music. Without thinking about it, my experience has truly come out in some of my songs, and even in my voice and the way I am singing. I feel like I am more connected than ever before.

How did you come up with the idea for Avante-Pop?

Hmmm, the first time someone asked me what genre I was, I said avant-garde, but then that switched to alternative, then indie pop, etc. Finally, it morphed into Avant- pop and that just seems like the most fitting for my music. It’s pop with a little something extra.

Does your new single mean we can expect a new album – how’s that coming along?

Yes, absolutely! It’s our first single off of our upcoming album. We are heading into the studio soon to finish everything up!

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

The title of the album is “For You.” I would absolutely love to release it by next summer. That’s the goal!

Any plans to hit the road?

Yes! We are heading to Montreal in October for our single release tour. We are also planning a Chicago tour for next summer.

What else is happening next in Bianca Muniz’s world?

More and more music! We have another single being released in December that I’m extremely excited about, and some NYFW news in February.

Thank you so much for taking the time to talk to me!
