INTERVIEW: International Rising Pop Artist Ivy Layne

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “One You Love”?

“One You Love” Is a very fresh Caribbean flavor with propulsive rhythmic beats that will keep people on the dance floor all night long.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

I was in the studio vibing with the producer and he played me the song and instantly I said that’s the record and the sound I have been looking for. It felt fresh to me, because I have never done any music with that type of sound. It felt so good!

Any plans to release a video for the single?

I just shot the music video for it. It will be 2 versions of the single. One version by myself and a second version featuring reggae stars Popcaan who were featured on DRAKE’s song “Controlla”.

The single comes off your new album In Time – what’s the story behind the title?

Haaa! Good question! Lol. I was looking for a lane and a niche to fit in and before I started this whole project I met an incredible team who understood me and pointed me in the right direction, something that I have been dreaming of for a longtime, which made me feel like everything came just “IN TIME”.

How was the recording and writing process?

The recording process was very fun, I felt so free and experimented with different sounds that are on the EP. The writing process came from some life experiences so it felt right and a lot of girls will be able to relate to the music.

What draw you to blend Caribbean rhythms and European funk music?

My whole team comes from a Caribbean background, I was surrounded with different genres of music from the Caribbean like dancehall, Kompa music and Soca. Therefore, it was a no brainer to combine those two sounds together.

What role does Prince plays in your music?

Style, freedom and Prince is a true artist, you were never able to predict what he was going to do next.

How has NYC influence your writing?

NYC is a melting pot of the world and because of its diversity it inspires me with all these wonderful cultures in the writing process.

Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?

Most of the inspirations of the lyrics came from true life experiences.

Any plans to hit the road?

I will be hitting the road really soon, check me out at a city near you. For a full schedule of my tour dates, please visit my site: www.Ivylaynemusic.com.  I can’t wait to meet my new fans 🙂
