Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Fall Before Your Pride”?
It’s a message of unity. Musically it’s an interesting journey.
Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?
G.T.: First of all, songwriting I feel is a sort of channeling. When looking at all the crazy shit that’s happening in the world, the song speaks volumes.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
Sure. We are chatting with some video makers.
The single comes off your new EP, Panstylistic– what’s the story behind the title?
G.T.: The word means many styles, which I read somewhere and it stuck, cause that is the essence of the band.
How was the recording and writing process?
G.T.: They coincided together. I remember it as one long August evening spread over days.
What was it like to work with Brian Lucey and how did that relationship develop?
He’s a really great guy and basically works with you instead of for you. This is our second time working with him so obviously we’re happy with his mastering.
How much did he influence the album?
Mastering is really the final touch that gives it that sizzle.
The album blends different genres together – does one style in particular shine out the most depending on the lyrics or you guys tried to balance them?
It’s really whatever’s floating in the air at the time. Nothing was preplanned. It takes shape like a sculpture and you kinda look at it and hear which parts need some work or not. There comes a point, both lyrically and musically, where it clicks and you know if you go one step further the whole thing will fall to pieces. That’s a good place to be.
What warm feelings did you get o explore on this record? Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
G.T.: Well, as I’ve said it’s sort of channeling, but yeah I suppose if one is in a positive state of mind which we both were during the recording, then that will shine through. Without sounding pretentious most of the inspiration comes from the inner world of dreams or just having a good meal!
Any plans to hit the road?
Oh yes. Our spring tour starts on March 30.
What else is happening next in Primal Static’s world?
We will be touring this spring March 30 through the end of May. We plan to release another EP around August this year and tour again in fall. It’s time to really reach out to people.
