Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
–Great! How about you?
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “I’m Not Afraid”?
–I’m Not Afraid is a very special song to us and we’re so excited to finally share it with the world.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
–Just weeks before departing on our first U.K. tour, our guitarist Jared’s father Mark Hara suffered a fatal heart attack. Despite the devastating shock, the tour went ahead and was a great success! Jared wrote the words to I’m Not Afraid just before this tour and the rest of the song came together once we returned home.
How was the film experience?
–The filming of this music video was a very special experience for all of us. We collected a lot of footage to go with our new single and gave creative control to our good friend Robyn (director of Fast Lane and Gotta Wake You Up). He ended up putting together a beautiful collage perfectly illustrating both how and why the song I’m Not Afraid came to be.
How was the recording and writing process?
–Recording I’m Not Afraid felt very natural. The song was written long before it was recorded so finally taking it into the studio, recording it, mixing it, and mastering it went incredibly smoothly. The song you hear is exactly the way we want you to hear it.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
–Stay posted on our social media pages! We’re constantly working on new material and eager to share it with you!
What have you learned from your experiences sharing the stage with big acts such as McBusted, Don Broco, and Third Eye Blind?
–We’ve learned that the energy of the crowd is equally as important as the energy of the band. While it’s an absolute dream come true to play a massive arena show, an energetic crowd in a tiny club can make for an equally as memorable night as the biggest shows imaginable. Basically if you’re in a band and playing live shows, there’s no excuse to lack in energy on stage. All of the big bands we’ve been fortunate enough to tour with have had great energy and that’s precisely why they’re headlining big tours with great crowds.
Any plans to hit the road?
–We’re planning on writing and recording a ton of new songs as well as recording some older songs that never really saw the light of day. If a good tour opportunity comes up that works out, we’ll absolutely hit the road and you’ll know the moment it’s confirmed!
What else is happening next in SYMMETRY’s world?
–2017 is another year of the unknown for Symmetry. However, the unknown is what fuels us. We’re excited to embark on any and all adventures this new year has to offer, both in the UK and worldwide.
