INTERVIEW: Will Joseph Cook

Hi Will, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Fab, I’m feeling tip top.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Girls Like Me”?

yep, fire away.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

It was written about a turbulent patch of a relationship. Breaking up, realising it sucks, getting back together. It’s a very niche topic.

How was the film experience?

Super fun, although quite sad when it was over, my freedom was short lived. My friends Billy and Katie are the other actors in the video, it was nice keeping it all relative to my life and music.

How was the recording and writing process?

For Girls Like Me the writing was very immediate, every idea seemed dead obvious. The pace at which i wrote and recorded the song was really exciting.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new album – how’s that coming along?

Yep, Ive been working on it over the last few months and its now fully finished and recorded.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

It’s looking like its going to be out at the end of the summer.

Would this album be a follow up from your previous material or are you seeking for a new direction with this material?

I would say that the album is very much its own body of work. I think being young and fairly new to releasing music, my EP were like a creative playground to find out what kind of artist I wanted to be. The album on the other hand feels more cohesive and bold, I’m really happy with it.

Any plans to hit the road?

I’m playing lots of festival dates over the summer which is gonna be a gas. Including some special unannounced dates still to come.

What else is happening next in Will Joseph Cook’s world?

At the moment I’m working on my next video and rehearsing for all the upcoming live shows. Although I’ve finished the album now, I’m still writing a lot at the moment. I’m also currently planning to start a London club night with my brother and friends called ‘Coffee on Mars’.
