Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
It is an honor to be here to talk to VENTS! We are coming off of a fun rehearsal last night and are looking forward to our weekend road trip up to Dallas, TX for our CD Release party and show.
Can you talk to us more about your single “In The Moment”?
The song opens up the recently released album and highlights some new elements in our sound including the use of samples as well as a groove-based song structure. It’s a departure from the sound of our last record, 285.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
The song is inspired by the beauty of surfing and how the surfer’s mind, body, and spirit are totally at one with the movement, power, and immensity of the ocean. Kind of like the feeling when we are making music onstage!
The single comes off your new album Goldfish In A Glass – what’s the story behind the title?
It is a lyric from Scientific Truth, the last track on the album. The four of us were hanging out before a show discussing potential album titles and the idea was suggested. Everyone liked it immediately. We just loved the way it sounded. The name stuck and has taken on a deeper meaning with time, the way songs do.
How was the recording and writing process?
Goldfish in a Glass is the culmination of two years worth of songwriting. The recording and production process was a blast and a lot of hard work. We are really pleased with the way that the final product represents the collaboration and sound of our band.
What was it like to work with Ren Renfree and how did that relationship develop?
Ren produced, engineered, and mixed the album while Andi created the stunning artwork. Jordi met them at a songwriter’s group and they hit it off and talked about the possibility of working together. All of us in the group felt that they had a tremendous amount of knowledge and experience, that they were super-open, and willing to share with us to help us get to the next level.
How much did Ren get to influence the album?
As producer, he had a huge impact on bringing out the best in QandA. It was truly a joint effort, as the band was very active in all phases of production, but Ren is a great listener and motivator as well as musician and songwriter himself. His stamp will forever be on this project. We love you Ren!
What human experiences get to influence the songs and lyrics on this record?
Hmmm, so many! Nature, love, floods, death, the supernatural, beauty, simplicity, murder, and wine (to name a few!).
Any plans to hit the road?
We are taking Texas by storm.! It is a big state. We have dates booked in Austin, Dallas, Galveston, Conroe, and hometown Houston of course.
What else is happening next in QandA’s world?
Playing for as many new audiences as possible to get our music in the hands of folks who really love what we are doing. It is amazing how far this music will travel to connect with people. Just today we mailed an online order for the entire 3 CD collection to a listener in France!
