Who’s Chubb-Z?

Haha. Depends on who you ask. But if your asking me, just a young man from Boston with a dream and an ambition to be the best at what I love to do. A kid on an adventure from the bottom of the barrel to the cream of the crop.  Ha

What’s the story behind your artist name?

I was an obese kid who got into a lot of fights because people would pick at me about it. My brother called me Chubbz when I was like 11 thinking that would make things better, like an “embrace who you are” moment ha. When he died it kind of just stuck and became a neighborhood nickname. I grew up on listening to Biggie and Jay-Z when I was really young, I always felt an attachment to their stories. I liked Jay-Z’s flow more, thought it was more engaging. I wanted to find a way to pay homage to my brother and my favorite rapper so I just added a dash to my name and gave birth to Chubb-Z.

What’s your method at the time of writing a song?

It depends. I am always writing just because that is something I enjoy doing. At first I would write to a melody in my own head and then find a beat to match. Now, I’ll listen to a beat first and then build on top of that or both. But lately, I have been more open to not writing at all and just rapping in the moment. But if I’m not in the booth I’ll record on my phone or write in my blackberry.

What are your music influences?

Growing up I was highly influenced by Jay-Z and Biggie. I enjoyed Busta Rymes for his flow and animated personality and listened to a lot of Slick Rick. Now my music influences range from Three 6 Mafia to Linkin Park and Blink 182. Nowadays, I get influenced by just everyday life seeing everything happening around me, analyzing it and speaking about it. ya know

So you are working on a new music video, can you give us more details about it and any release date yet?

I’m actually working on a new project, it’s called the D.E.M.O. Mixtape. Stands for “Demolish Every Music Obstacle”. I am working on a few videos that are going to be released soon on the net. No release date has been discussed for the tape, but it will be released fairly soon when the time is right.

What has been the funniest moment you guys have been or took part while touring or playing a gig?

When performing in Connecticut opening for Big Krit and Schoolboy Q. My friend that was with me was completely intoxicated and told me he was gonna try and crowd surf. Mind you, the kid is like 230 lbs and 6 feet tall. I warned him before that big people don’t get that luxury especially not at a show like this, but he wasn’t trying to hear that. Like midway through the set, the nigga took off and hit the ground so hard that it stopped the music. I was mad I didn’t catch it on camera because he was so hurt. That is the funniest moment so far in my career.

Are there any more plans for the future we should be aware of?

I have a lot of music to deliver to the people and my supporters. I want to grow as an artist and performer and plan on doing unexpected shit to always keep people guessing. I also want to start making films and testing my acting abilities later in my career, now I only focus on making my music better but later I want to try that out and see how well I do. Also, I have merchandise for my fans to feel apart of the TFP x SOS Empire coming out real soon. So look for that.

Do you guys feel you are moving on the right direction?

As long as I progress in my career, I feel we are moving in the right direction. When I feel like I’m doing better than last year, then I must be doing something right. Cuz even you didn’t know who Chubb-Z was before this interview, now you do.
